Your teachers' e-mails are located in these documents for quick access when you have questions about the assignment. They are always excited to hear from you and are looking forward to the upcoming 2019-2020 school year.

The best college essays are as unique as the individuals who write them. There is no prescribed formula, but college admission teams are impressed by essays that are original, focused, and structured. Rising seniors are highly encouraged to join Mrs. Doreen Kiefer-Kopecky, English Faculty, to workshop their essays at two in-person sessions, one in early summer and the other in late summer. Students will also receive online feedback and critiquing of their essays, as needed. Take some of the stress out of the admissions process and get a head start on your college application!

College Essays workshops will be held Wednesday, June 26 and Thursday, August 22 beginning at 11:00 am in the College Counseling Office. Students planning to attend each session should confirm their attendance with Mrs. Kiefer-Kopecky directly (doreen.kiefer-kopecky@chasemail.org). Middle & Upper School Summer Schedule Updates: Arts

Students Entering Grades 6-8 

Mark Your Calendar: Mrs. Zembruski will host a meeting on Tuesday, August 20th at 6:30 p.m. in the Fulkerson Arts Center for families interested in having their students participate in the Middle School Theater Program.

Over the past two years, the PACT (Program for Arts, Culture & Technology) program has evolved and we are excited about the new opportunities available for next year! Students will continue to choose electives scheduled during the academic day in Arts, Innovation, and Digital Media during the first week of school.

The Highlander Theater Company in the Upper School has mounted two mainstage productions every season for the last 21 years. Quite an accomplishment! As a signature component of our Arts Department, we are excited to continue the practice of guiding students to explore acting, vocal and instrumental direction, stage management, directing, light and sound design, costuming, house management, box office, marketing, and concessions.
There are so many opportunities, and always questions and/or concerns. Know that we encourage, embrace, support and celebrate participation in all three seasons; please reach out to Coach Behr or Mrs. Zembruski who are here and eager to support your commitment to the community at Chase!

Students Entering Grades 6-8 

Mark Your Calendar: Fall Sports will begin on the Tuesday after Labor Day, September 3rd.

Based on student feedback and participation rates, we are transitioning to a new model for physical education this year. As a complement and feeder to our Upper School Program, we will require Middle School Students to play 2 out of 3 seasons of team sports offered after school. The Athletic Season is divided into three time periods, Fall, Winter, and Spring and practices will run from 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. There are no Wednesday or weekend commitments.

Fall sports options:

  • Co-Ed Soccer
  • Girls Volleyball

- 8th Grade Students may be encouraged to "play up" in the Upper School program. 

Coach Behr will send more details in late August. Students will not be permitted to participate in any sports team without current health forms.

Students Entering Grades 9-12 

Mark Your Calendar: Fall Pre Season - 7 Day Commitment Mon., August 19th to Fri., August 23rd AND Mon., August 26th to Tues., August 27th. Pre Season Time Commitment is 4-6 pm each day

The Upper School Athletic Program includes required participation in 2 out of 3 seasons. The Athletic Season is divided into three time periods, Fall, Winter, and Spring and practices will run from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. 

Fall sports options:

  • JV Boys Soccer & Varsity Boys Soccer
  • Varsity Girls Soccer

Under the new BYOD Program students in grades 6-12 are expected to bring their own computing device to school each day. Going forward we will require a laptop, 2-in-1 or tablet device that runs Windows or Mac operating systems. Students who purchased an iPad last year can still use that device if they wish, but should that device need to be replaced it needs to meet our new requirements. Going forward iPads will no longer be an acceptable device for daily use.  The device specifications identify the minimum system requirements for the student devices so parents are fully informed about the requirements. These requirements are in place so the student can fully maximize their learning experience.

You can take these to any local computer store and they should be able to help you find a suitable model. We do not recommend any specific models or brands since there are many that will meet the following specifications.

We have two student orientations planned. A letter will be sent on August 9th with more information. Please note:

  • Global Student Orientation is August 12th-16th
  • New Middle & Upper School Students PLUS Rising 6th Grade and Freshman Students is August 27th beginning at 9:00 am

Conferences: All Lower and Middle School Students will be asked to register for a time slot on August 27th with Rebecca Gehrken

New This Year: All Class Trips for Grades 6 - 12 will take place Thursday, August 29th - Friday, August 30th. Itinerary and permission slip will be sent in the next two weeks.

Using the SAME Login Credentials & Password, you can now find the preliminary schedule for your students in Grade 6 - 12 here. (Please note that students will not receive their new credentials until the first day of school; PLEASE PRINT, FORWARD, SHOW THEIR LIST OF REGISTERED COURSES AND FACULTY TO THEM)

  • The nature of our schedule and the programming that we offer can sometimes make it difficult to accommodate all course requests. Mr. Palmgren met with all rising 10, 11, and 12 students to confirm their choices before the end of the school year. That said, if you have questions about a specific class, have one too many study halls, or are missing a required course, please contact Dierdre McGuire for students in grades 6-8 and Mr. Henaire for those enrolled in 9-12 as soon as possible. We invite you in to look over your schedule and remedy any problems that exist before we get to the ADD/DROP period. Students still have time to select semester-based Arts courses, contact Mrs. Zembruskias soon as possible!

We have concluded the search process for this opening, and are pleased to announce that Mr. Ernie Beaulieu will be our new Director of Upper School. Mr. Beaulieu has worked at Chase for over 20 years; he is understanding of our history but not overly steeped in tradition and looking forward to our strategic growth and future. He has been part of the cross-divisional faculty approach for a number of years and will be focused on the day to day management and operations, discipline, and implementation of academic and operational structure for students and faculty in the Upper School. He will continue as Department Chair and Faculty Member of the History Department. 

There will be lots of new faces on our campus this Fall! We look forward to sharing student, staff and faculty announcements at our Opening Ceremony on Wednesday, August 28th at 8:30 a.m. in the Fulkerson Arts Center.
